BYU Fan playbook video: an analysis
I finally took the time to watch the entire BYU fan playbook video thanks to the linked post. Before today I always turned it off the minute "Don't Stop Believin'" started. And even today I was tempted to do the same. But I soldiered on.

Here are my takes:
1. The DSB section is sad and embarrassing and deserves all the ridicule it gets. And I'm not just saying that because constant overplaying has made me hate that song like poison.
2. Equally sad is the fact that we have to teach fans how to cheer at football games. Nobody had to teach me how to cheer at a football game. But if this helps people feel more included and welcome at football games, then I'm all for it.
3. The video would be so much better with a different host. I'm sorry, and I know this poor guy gets dumped on so much by BYU fans, but I need to say it again: he was just all wrong for that position. I know what he was trying to do for BYU athletics, and I actually think it was a very good idea, but he should have given this position to another person. In the video he looks like he's in his late 30s, and he's got an angry JV-football-coach look on his face the whole time. If there was a young, happy, college-age-looking host, the video would be 10 times better.

Change the host, delete Journey, and it's a solid video for freshman orientation.
