It would break. We put it in their pockets and away they go.

A watch would be nice, but getting a kid to keep a watch on their wrist is tough. Super easy just to place it in the pocket.

My 6 year-old doesn't care...he knows that he can go play wherever in the neighborhood because we can get ahold of him, and he can get ahold of us.

I don't care that it doesn't read text messages. The point of this thing is to say "come home for dinner".
