Yeah, I was too.
My wife and I have been a couple times and we just told them to catch the bus south to Tulum, which was just on the edge of the hurricate force winds cone. They were able to get a flight instead, so went for it. We would have just waited it out like you.

Just found out she made it on the plane. I thought it had left but they were just on it at the gate.
