Which trail did you use?
It's been a long time, but from what I remember, the trail from Aspen Grove is shorter, but has some areas that are fairly steep, while the trail from Sundance is a bit longer, but quite a bit flatter.

Maybe drive up to cascade springs through af canyon and hike around the springs
