Implantable loop recorder for unexplained syncope
CB often surprises me. I have unexplained, frequent syncope. I’ve had most of the normal tests, only lacking the tilt table test at this point.

A couple of weeks ago after an unremarkable stress ekg, the cardiologist performed a carotid sinus massage and elicited a 7 second pause during which I blacked out (weird curtain shutting effect). He was excited because he “found the problem” and ordered a PM. This was not my normal cardiologist so I asked for a second opinion. That dr said the jump to PM might be the ultimate step but thought it premature. So he ordered the tilt table test, and, depending on the results, an ILR.

Sounded reasonable, until Methodist Hospital called with the estimated cost—north of $20k

I’m torn reading the literature about whether anything useful will be gained from the ILR. The cardiologist has told me multiple times that I have a textbook heart and that it looks like the heart of someone in their 20s, not someone who has crossed into his 60s. That said I have a young caboose at home and I need a minimum of 10 years to make sure she’s taken care of (and would be hoping for close to 30 more years given the parental and grand parent lifespans).

Gone on way too long. Just interested in experiences of those who have had one, and especially those whose training / ed can opine with authority.
