Their QB would step back in the pocket, wait until the pocket was closed in on him and 3 milliseconds from collapsing on top of him, and would suddenly hand the ball standing next to him. Who was generally also in process of being tackled as the pocket collapsed.

It seemed to my uneducated eyes that this play, because of it timing and positioning, would never work, yet they kept trying it.

Was there just some devious element to it that I couldn’t see?
