ZacSeljaas'Stache Intervention Needed
It is becoming apparent that some people need to see this again (NY6 Process)
WALKTHROUGH FOR NY6

Lets say the Playoff Committee Final Rankings end up like this:

1 - Alabama (SEC Champ)
2 - Clemson (ACC Champ)
3 - Florida
4 - Ohio State (Big Ten Champ)
5 - Oklahoma State (Big 12 Champ)
6 - Georgia
7 - Oregon (Pac 12 Champ)
8 - Notre Dame
9 - Penn State
10 - Miami
11 - BYU
12 - Michigan
13 - Texas
14 - SMU (AAC Champ - Earned the G5 Bid)

The first thing they do is put the top 4 into the playoff
1 Bama vs 4 Ohio State
2 Clemson vs 3 Florida

Then, they put the other Auto Bids into the remaining 8 NY6 slots:
5 Oklahoma State
7 Oregon
14 SMU

Next they will take the 5 highest ranked teams left to place into the other slots unless one of the NY6 games has tie to a conference (like the rose bowl). This year the Orange Bowl is highest ranked ACC vs Highest ranked non-champion of the Big Ten or SEC.

Orange Bowl: 8 Notre Dame vs 6 Georgia

That leaves the Cotton, Fiesta, and Peach bowls. They will select from Oklahoma State, Oregon, SMU, plus the 3 highest ranked teams left (No Exceptions). Those 3 teams are: 9 Penn State, 10 Miami, and 11 BYU. The Bowl Matchups could end up being:

Cotton Bowl: 14 SMU vs 5 Oklahoma State
Peach Bowl: 9 Penn State vs 10 Miami
Fiesta Bowl: 7 Oregon vs 11 BYU

I hope this clarifies the process for some of you. There won't be any bias when selecting the NY6 teams. BYU only has to worry about getting ranked high enough for an at large slot by the committee. Despite having bigger brands the NY6 CAN NOT select Michigan and Texas despite being ranked right behind us in this scenario.

If SMU were #10 instead of #14, pushing BYU back to #12 NOTHING in this would change, nothing. People have been saying that it means BYU can be ranked 1 spot lower (12) and get the at large bid if the AAC champ finishes ahead of us. While that is true looking at purely the ranking, in both scenarios the teams BYU is competing with for the at-large bid are the SAME (and not AAC teams). What happens in the AAC literally means nothing to BYU. Nothing at all.
