I mean it doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to know that Dalton didn't play well, and Dallas is in a bad spot, but this team was headed nowhere even before Dak's injury. If anyone watched the game last night, it was obvious that the patched together offensive line was completely overmatched by a Cardinals team that hasn't been good at pressuring the QB this season. Any NFL team would probably struggle if they lost their top 2 offensive tackles, but Dallas was already trying to replace their Center with a rookie. When Martin went out last night with a concussion, it was bound to go bad, and boy did it ever. Seems likely that Martin might miss a couple of more games with concussion protocol, so things aren't going to get better any time soon.
The Elliott extension was a huge mistake. Everyone knew it was a mistake when he signed it, and it's only looking worse this year. He's averaging just 4.1 yards per carry, and his longest run over the past season and a half is 33 yards. Now he's developed a bad case of fumblitis (4 already this year in 6 games). Going forward, that contract is going to be a huge burden for this team.
The Defense is a mess. The front four has tons of guys that can get to the passer, but it doesn't matter because the secondary is so bad that the pass rush doesn't have time to get home. I've complained about it before, but the safeties have been the worst in the NFL for going on 5 years now and the team never does anything to improve the position.
In summary, this team is just going to be a bad, bad team. I wish that they would just lean into being bad and draft another QB next year, but I'm guess that Jerry franchises Dak to see if he's recovered next year.
