He assumed she must be black or Native American. Our ancestry is primarily British/Irish and Scandinavian. Maybe Uncle thought it was an interracial relationship. Thanks to DNA, we now know that not only does she not have any ancestry outside of recent Europe, she is more British/Irish than any of us. Luckily she was able to laugh it off, but they still tell the story sometimes.
