1-2 feet and they are usually dead. I can hit them 2-3 feet, but they are

usually just stunned and I have to still go in for the kill shot. Honestly, I have more fun that way. This year I took it outside during picnics to keep the yellow jackets at bay. It would not kill them the first shot, but again would stun them enough I could get a second shot off.
