BYU every season during conference championship week will have an invitational played in Hawaii (Granting a 13th game) against a team who accepts that season. Assume the NCAA allowed this to happen, and the game had to be scheduled 2 weeks in advance.
We'll say that generally the team that BYU can get to the invitational is an AAC/MWC/C-USA team that is already eliminated from Conference Championship game, and once a decade Notre Dame. This means its usually BYU against a team that is around 6-6 to 8-4 in a G5 conference.
A ten year span could look like this:
7-5 Nevada
8-4 UAB
6-6 Tulsa
7-5 Colorado State
9-3 Notre Dame
8-4 Wyoming
8-4 SMU
6-6 UNLV
8-4 Houston
7-5 Fresno State
