I’m not sure we’ll ever fully understand the human brain and the mechanisms involved that lead to certain decisions. If
you listen to Andrew Huberman and other leading neuroscientists, they make a very compelling case about the brain and how certain types of trauma, lesions or chemical imbalances can lead people to do all sorts of things that society agrees is wrong.

On the extreme end of this spectrum is Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy is on record that he did not want to do the things he did and wanted to stop but had an uncontrollable urge to rape and murder women. This is not an excuse for what he did of course but it does provide an answer for why.

I’ve listened to those who study the brain tell examples of “normal” people growing tumors or having head injuries and they become pedophiles, homicidal, suicidal etc... I think the overwhelming majority of us don’t realize how powerful the brain is and if that thing is not working right, it can lead to terrible decisions and outcomes.
