I know a guy who passed away (way too young) that had documentation for the

actual prices he paid for the cars in his extensive (and expensive) collection. He gave the document to his oldest son and would update it as he bought new cars.

He was worried that his wife would sell for what he told her he paid vs their actual value. His son shared the story at his funeral. His wife's expression was great. A small moment of levity in a normally sad setting.
