Been practicing for a month but he’s been training for four months. Not at the heel. Right above it. He can walk but it’s sore.

Maybe Severs Disease? How old is he? If its been ongoing and worse with activity

Sons has severs. He complains about Achilles but really it’s his heel.

16 has never had any issues.

16 is old for severs. Calcaneal apophysis is often closed by that age.

My kids grew out of severs at 14-15. Likely tendinitis from overuse would be my guess.
