traditionally tried to schedule a Top 10 team every season:
- 2014 - @ Stanford
- 2015 - @ Penn State
- 2016 - vs. Notre Dame
- 2017 - @ Ohio State
- 2018 - @ Oklahoma
- 2019 - @ Michigan
They very nearly won both the Oklahoma and Michigan games. Here they sit, relatively untested (but likely ranked by Thanksgiving), with a chance to host a Top 10 team at home, broadcast prime-time holiday weekend on CBS, and we suddenly think they are too scared to play us?
I thought their AD was pretty forthcoming immediately after the cancellation. They tried to fill the empty date when we had to cancel. They weren't able to. He then said they would try to schedule the BYU game later if they were able to play the remaining games on their schedule. He specifically identified the 11/7 AFA game as the most important date on their schedule (apart from 12/12 vs. Navy). It seemed pretty clear at the time, that if that game on Nov. 7th happens as-scheduled, then BYU-Army will be re-scheduled for Nov. 27/28, but we have to wait to make sure they can play AFA as-scheduled.
Now, there are rumors that their pre-existing contract with UMass may unexpectedly force them to play this year. If Army has to schedule UMass instead of us, it will be for contractual reasons, not because they are scared to play BYU.
