I expect that an 8-2 Florida or 8-2 Texas A&M will be ranked ahead of BYU. I may be wrong (and hope that I am) but that is what I am expecting.
Last fall 12-1 Memphis finished #17 in the final playoff poll. While they didn't go undefeated, they did have wins over #23 Navy, and #21 Cincinnati (2x). They finished behind #8 Wisconsin (10-3), #12 Auburn (9-3), #14 Michigan (9-3), & #16 Iowa (9-3).
In 2018, #8 UCF completed a second straight undefeated season and the only 2 loss P5 team they finished above was #13 Wazzou.
In 2017, #12 UCF was undefeated and finished behind #8 Auburn (10-3) and all 2 loss P5 teams.
In 2016, #15 W Michigan was undefeated and finished behind six 3-loss P5 teams and a 4 loss Auburn team.
BYU may not have the benefit of any wins over other CFP ranked opponents (come on SDSU, Houston, & Boise to help boost them up).
It will be an usual season but I don't expect BYU to get very many favors from the committee. A common theory on CB is that the BCS & CFP were created to keep BYU out (especially with a 2020esque schedule).
