A lot of it depends on the car too. My smallest loan was around $5k, but it was Cyprus credit Union. It was
a 12 year old Mercedes with 130k on it. I believe it was a 3 year loan with a super low payment. I wanted to go 5, but the guy laughed at me because of how cheap it was.
I probably should have paid cash like doctorcoug suggested, but I wanted/needed the cash flow for other things. It was basically like paying a cell phone plan anyway.
If you cosign with your son, then it shouldn't be a problem.
