It says in big letters, “Official Church Statement”
If it was just in an article in the New Era I might agree with you, but the church released an official statement about it after the article was published.

“In recent publications for Church members, Church leaders have clarified that several substances are prohibited by the Word of Wisdom, including vaping or e-cigarettes, green tea, and coffee-based products.”

If you are really trying, I guess it could be possible to interpret this as the church saying that the church leaders clarified that green tea is against the WoW, but that the church doesn’t take this as an official stance as it was simply the church leaders’ opinions. That seems like a stretch to me.

Regardless, it is certainly possible to obey the spirit of the law in regards to the WoW and still drink green tea if one sincerely believes that it is ok and I wouldn’t deem that person as any less righteous or less likely to be blessed. The Lord looketh on the heart.
