passing yards and high completion rate against better teams and qbs. Last year we also had problems stopping the run, partially because we refused to move more defenders into the box on running downs. The worst part about it is that when they are giving up long drives it keeps our offense off the field. A little more pressure would go a long ways. At least they are using more 4 man rushes this year.
It'd be nice if they could be more creative, but it is what it is. Hard to argue with the success (against bad teams) this year. It'll be interesting to see what they do against Boise. Last year they moved more defenders into the box and likely need to do the same this year. I think our defense has some good players, but as you can tell i'm not a fan of the conservative scheme. There's definitely susceptibility in the zones when the opposing qb has time to throw. I think our DL is generating more pressure this year, even outmaned (against bad teams mostly), but give them credit. It'd be amazing to see what they could do if they had a disguised blitz or rushed 5 more on 2nd and third and longs.
