he wanted to host the show back then, and it was kind of a pipe dream at the time. So he's been angling for it for a while now. If he fails, it won't be for lack of preparation.

That said, when I read that interview years ago I remember thinking "I just don't see Jennings as having the gameshow host personality" and nothing has changed my opinion. Maybe he can grow into it, but I agree that it wouldn't surprise me to see the producers re-calibrate after Jennings and get it right.
