I hear what you're saying, and I'd be lying if there wasn't a part of me...
that wonders how good BYU really is, and whether their season to this point is fool's gold or not.

However, having said that BYU's schedule is arguably more difficult than CC's. I'd argue that Boise St and Houston are better than anyone of their schedule. They did open the season with a 15-point win against Kansas, a P5 team. But Kansas might be the worst team in the country. They're 0-7, losing every game in a blowout. The loss to CC was by far their closest game.

CC averages 37 points a game and opponents have scored an average of 17 points a game. BYU averages 48 points a game while their opponents have scored an average of 14 points a game.

I'm probably judging CC the same way others judge BYU. But to me BYU clearly passes the eye test. Their lines are big and good. Their offense is lethal. Kalani has clearly taken his foot off the pedal in the 2nd half of many games. Lots of 2nd and 3rd teamers have gotten a lot of PT. Quite a few of the points scored against BYU have come in garbage time with reserves playing.

I do still have some concerns about the defense. I worry about not being able to get pressure on the QB in games against better teams. I worry about how easily teams have moved the ball against BYU, particularly early in games. I wonder how much defensive game planning is done for each opponent. I don't worry about the BYU offense, but I worry that against better teams BYU might have to outscore teams in shootouts.

But I'd love to see BYU schedule a couple of games against better teams so we can get a better feel about how good they really are. I know the team would welcome that challenge. I suspect the team has a bit of a chip on their shoulder and would love to prove to the world they're not a fluke. And that chip will get bigger if BYU is slotted in the CFP rankings between 11 and 15.

I believe that adding games is crucial. If for nothing else, for the fans and the players. If BYU gets a bid to a NY6 bowl I want them to get it because they scheduled the best they could at the end of the season and won, not because they decided to stand pat and hope to get in on the strength of their 10-game season with a watered down schedule.

Come on Mr. Holmoe, add some great games!
