PortlandCoug Intervention Needed
There's no doubt that BYU probably could have been more proactive
I thought the comments before the North Alabama game were disappointing. I thought BYU not commenting on the Pac-12's requirements when they were announced was also a mistake. I get that BYU doesn't want to burn bridges but there are plenty of ways to skin that cat without being offensive. Tom's tweet last week about no fans tweeting him about scheduling games was definitely a justified dig at some fans BUT an argument could be made that the fans were perhaps actually more in tune with what the situation that BYU was definitely not in the driver's seat with regards to an NY6 invite.

Why did Washington seem to catch BYU sleeping with their invite to play? Why didn't BYU proactively contact the Pac-12 about it's policies or at least teams it would consider playing to start negotiations? In the end, I don't blame BYU for not accepting the Washington game based on what we know are ridiculous requirements but why did BYU allow itself to be in a position to look so bad? Don't get me wrong, I think Holmoe has mostly done a great job but there are times when I think BYU is far too conservative in its approach. I don't think the "BYU-way" has to be as passive as it's been to some extent under Tom's tenure. Hopefully, he proves me wrong but IMHO BYU should have been far more active in looking for quality opponents and at-the-ready for any quality teams that might be looking for a last minute game. Ultimately, BYU is not guilty of ducking out of a game with Washington or getting royally screwed by the Playoff Committee but they did themselves no favors by what appears to be sitting on their laurels.
