...building on their lead. One of the things that’s been lacking in our read and react offense is when the wing player rotates up to the top and takes the dribble hand-off he’s supposed to cut sharply off the pick and drive hard at the rim. The aggressive move forces the 2 defenders in the PNR to be quick and 100% in sync with their decision making.
Run it once in the possession maybe the opposing team defends it well. Keep the ball moving and keep teammates moving and the next time with all the constant switching and helping it becomes more difficult to defend the next time.
Spencer did a really nice job taking the dribble hand-off and going hard at the rim and he created a couple of opportunities for the big rolling to the rim. One he flubbed by being too cute and throwing a behind-the-back pass at Harward’s feet. Harward didn’t get the open layup but did get fouled when he tried to muscle up the shot (don’t remember if he made these FT’s). The 2nd time in that situation Spencer made a better pass.
One reason that offense worked so well last year was the guys like Nixon, Seljaas, Lee, etc moving without the ball and reacting quickly to what the defender did. We’ve got a ways to go this year but as guys start to show they get it I can see them earning more minutes.
