The committee thought they could reset the goalposts by comically under-ranking the Cougs. Since that ranking has come out the conversation has totally changed from BYU being in consideration for the playoff to, “wow, they better add a quality win game to even have a chance at a NY6 Bowl.” Yes that #14 ranking has been the talk of the CFB world since it came out, but attention doesn’t get us much but sympathy. Sure, Rece Davis said on College GameDay that BYU should still get a NY6 bowl at 10-0, but many aren’t so sure now

Now TH/KS feel they have to set up a big game(s) to make a NY6 and playing that extra tough game does significantly increase the chance of a loss. That would take us out of NY6 bowl contention and that’s exactly what Barta and the CFP Committee were betting on with BYU’s low ranking. They all stand to benefit from keep $$ away from Indy BYU who doesn’t have to share the $$ with anyone else. Sly move IMO, but...

Now, I’ve always been on-board with “going big, or going home” with this team, and Jarom Jordan’s approach of just sitting pretty and coasting into a NY6 bowl at 10-0 has never sat well with me and many cougar fans.

Get the big game(s), especially this year when we have such a great chance of winning them, I’ve always been saying. Not only does ZW and this team deserve more chances to prove their salt, but us BYU fans, and CFB fans in general, deserve to see it.

If we can line up Miami and get a top 10 win, then beat SDSU, we’re sitting in a 100% sure spot for NY6, have bragging rights over a storied P5 program, and have an argument for jumping Cincy (their better wins aren’t looking so good now... SMU losing big and UCF/Memphis struggling to beat middling ACC teams). If the Bearcats win out, they will have 2 wins over a then 5-3 Tulsa and a beatable 6-3 UCF as their showcase wins...

Get a little chaos with Auburn over TAMU or a little SEC fatigue and then even considering lining up a DEC 19th game if necessary against another big/ranked program (tOSU or Wiscy if not eligible for the CCG, or even Liberty if they beat Coastal this week and... who knows. Crazier things have happened in the history of the CFP. It would be sooooooo sweet to stick it to Barta and his committee and actually get into the CFP after they pulled this crap this past Tuesday. Sure, I realize I'm going into "pipe dream" territory here and I think we all know they'd find a way to keep us out of something big, if at all possible, but...
