...There certainly are far greater injustices and hurtful virtue signaling (such as much of the current cancel culture). But it's still ridiculous that this/she is being so celebrated over something she basically didn't earn(asked 4 days before the gm), nor contribute much towards(1 30 yrd squib, then straight to sidelines). This has been done before on the D1 level and by women who truly worked hard and sacrificed for the opportunity. And then did far more, for much longer; scoring kicks, etc.
I'm all for celebrating diversity (gender, race), overcoming handicaps, first times, and especially the Rudy type stories. Accomplishing unusual things through intensive hard work, grit and a no quit attitude. But this girl had everything absolutely handed to her. So nothing really was all that unique or special with what she did personally. Even her post squib kick had her trotting straight to the sidelines, 20+ yrds away from anyone...
That said, the most cringy and offensive thing, by far, is her going public with her calling out her teammates the following day. Even her quoting the coaches came off as making them seem weak. I'm sure it wasn't her intent, and it was a fairly low key call out. But it was still entirely unnecessary. And she had plenty of time for forethought. Just say something about how "I tried to help and do anything I could to lift our team. Even if that was just cheering at 1st downs and the interception...I wish I could of done more..."
She couldn't avoid the media making a spectacle of it all or asking her for comments there in the moment, post gm. But the next day, choosing to post on her SM all the nonsense about her HT talk, low key call out of team, etc was all her doing.
