and passing game coordinator is Jan Jorgensen as defensive line coach. We can hire on either the defensive or offensive side of the ball, it doesn't necessarily have to be a position coach on offense. Make ARod the OC and keep him working with the QBs, and promote Fesi or Clark to passing game coordinator while having them stay with the WRs and TEs. This creates the perfect opportunity to hire Jorgensen as DL coach. Why would this be a good move, you may ask? Jorgensen and his understanding of the 3-4 defense when he was here as a grad assistant fills the team's current single biggest need. It isn't a coincidence that when Jorgensen left to take an actual coaching position, Tuiaki's use of the 3-4 got much more basic. So, we simultaneously get someone who improves the way in which Tuiaki can use the 3-4, while also allowing for either him or Tuiaki to then be more dedicated in their teaching of technique to our defensive linemen. He also has strong Juco recruiting connections, which is another plus. In addition, he's somebody that already works well with Tuiaki, and so Tuiaki wouldn't view his hiring as stepping on his toes at all. If we keep all of our offensive assistants (including Mateos, which it currently looks like we may be able to do), bringing Jorgensen on as defensive line coach would be the best possible position coach hire we could likely make. It's a win for everybody involved, that is all position groups and coaches and coordinators currently on the staff.
