This varies regionally as well.
When we moved to Ohio, almost every person on our street knocked on the door and introduced themselves, and most brought a treat. We became close with many families in that neighborhood, and we still stay in touch. When we moved to California, it was the exact opposite. We’ve lived next door and across the street from the same people for 6+ years, and we still don’t even know their names. We’ve become friendly with some of the families on our street because of our kids, but it is really disheartening to have people go out of their way to avoid any conversation.
