This is standard for any FB program that values winning. Bronco was getting more
severe w cutting guys as he got further along in his BYU career, too. I remember the year when he announced they would be reviewing the situation of all RS Seniors on scholarship — & if it was determined that they weren't in a likely position to work their way into the 2-deep that they would pull their scholarship.

In the first year this was implemented according to my memory, a kid by the name of Austin Holt lost his scholarship as a Sr because of this. And if there ever were a player you didn't want that to happen to, it was Austin. As one of the highest rated TEs coming out of HS, Austin spurned offers from top programs from the Pac, B1G, & Big12 — to come to BYU when Bronco was first taking over for a team that was perceived by most as still halfway in the cesspool (though on its way out). Austin was a mission-first kid, & at one point in his career ran away with the starting TE spot, & looked on his way to doing great things — but after only a few games sustained a leg injury that --after a couple years of rehabilitation-- he would never fully recover from.

And so he lost his scholarship going into his RS Senior year. Despite his many sacrifices & faithfulness to BYU.

It happens. And it's to be expected.
