Intervention Needed
For several years I ate the same thing for lunch every day: ciabatta roll, chees
cheese, banana on the side.
Basically, a cheese sandwich, plus some fruit.
I’d walk to the Safeway near the office and buy it every day. Cost was about a buck. Maybe a bit more. I’d order one slice of cheese from the deli.

Can you build a one-time sandwich at the grocery store for less than a sub shop?

You might skate by with just meat and cheese but toppings/seasonings/condiments would push the cost up

I don't think you can actually. If you're making 3 or 4, then yes, absolutely. But not for one sandwich.

not as good. COGS at a JJ, Jersey Mike's or Gandolphos is 30-50% depending on the sandwich

Find a Sprouts near you. They'll make a great custom sandwich for you for much less than the price of a chain sub place.
