At the time, MTV & the media definitely considered them part of the movement
A lot of Northwesterners thought they were too pop to be grunge. I honestly thought for weeks when Plush came out that they were a poppier side project of Eddie Vedder's. It sounded his voice. Whatever it was, they made a few timeless, classic songs, for sure.
