There's of course the possibility that he saw contact outa the corner of his eye
that he wanted checked. The BSU kid cried foul immediately after the play --the ref acknowledged it, & told him they'd check it out. That would mean the ref over the goal line who was dialed into the play on the ball — didn't think he had eyes enough to make a who/what call on the apparent foul on the players — but instead left the verdict to the cameras.

Which is sound reffing.
