There will need to be both talent and depth. Going into spring, finding players who will provide depth will be key. BYU is already pretty loaded with starters. Not very many spots on the field will be void a player that has started at least at some point at BYU.

RB Allgeier, Katoa, Finau (Mcchesney and Davis if Davis stays at RB Hinkley Ropati if he is healthy)
OL Freeland, Barrington, Empey, Lachance, Pay, Saleapaga, and Tukuafu (Unutoa, Keim and Willis)
TE Rex Wake, Wheat (Tuipulotu, Lunt) Holker won't be here for spring practice
WR Romney, Pau'u (Hill, Cosper, Epps, Jackson and Davis if he moves from RB)

There is plenty of talent and depth at every position. There is also potential for some break out seasons. Remember coming into 2020, BYU had lost its top 3 WR and turned in one of the best passing offenses in the country with their replacements. I expect a drop off from losing an NFL first round pick, but I also expect we can find ways to move the ball and score against any team we play. There are weapons on offense.

DL El Bakri, Mahe, Tuioti-Mariner, Leiataua, Sommers, Tofa, Feveleaki, Fauatea, Batty, Haws (deepest position on the team IMO)
LB Wilgar, Pili, Tooley, Kaufusi, Wilson, Bywater, Jensen, Tanuvasa (we need to shore up depth here and give reps to the developing players)
DB Ah You, Udo, Moore, Piper, Willis, Livingston
CB Ellis, Harper, Christensen, Mandell, Willis, Wilson

Defense has holes to fill losing playmakers like Tonga and Kaufusi and veterans like Wilcox, Dawe and Warner. This is the area BYU needs to find some depth and see what the young guys can do this spring. Still, there are many players who have started at every position, in fact, all 11 players on the field in 2021 will have likely logged at least some starts at their position.

This is a hard time of the year between the last game and spring practices. Recruiting used to tie me over, but now that kind of gets wrapped up in December. I will have to make player lists and post them to cougarboard to get my BYU football fix so bare with me 🙂
