Whenever we have job openings, there are always people who don't have a lot of experience or the right experience. I get it - sometimes people are taking a shot. Sometimes it pays off. Normally we are tossing a pile of resumes of people who don't quite fit in order to not waste time interviewing a bunch of unqualified candidates.
But my favorite of all time -
A guy who was just getting out of the army was looking for a job. Now - I respect the military and would have loved to give this guy a shot. But it was for a social work job, and he had no degree or experience in that area. His entire resume was essentially a list of the various certifications and trainings he'd received in the military, a list of the weapons he could field strip, and his expertise in small unit maneuvering and clandestine infiltration of enemy positions.
He got me curious enough that I was very tempted to bring him in for an interview even though he didn't have the background for the job. But then...with his skill set, decided I didn't want him to know who I was or that I had decided not to hire him. So I let the HR director tell him that he wasn't getting an interview. 😉
