My son loves a YouTube channel which totally plays on Asian racial stereotypes
The channel "host" (the "straight man" in the comedy situation) is a white guy and an Asian guy is the one doing the wild and surprising stuff (including a strong, stereotypical accent that my son thinks is hilarious). I don't know who the channel is owned and run by, but I told him that just because they found an Asian guy to do what he does on there, that doesn't mean that it can't be offensive. I thought it wasn't something worth his time. He tells me he thinks its OK because the guy doing the shtick is Asian.

I don't know that the situation I describe is the same as the one in your question. I don't know the show, who produces it and what its about. There are often situations where I think its ok for a member of an in-group to poke fun at the in group in a way that others outside the group should not. But I also think there is a line where offensive things are offensive just based on the content - and they're not sanitized just because they are delivered by someone who is a member of that group. I think the YouTube channel my son likes crosses that line for me. The show you mention may not.
