With a tiny bit of research Elvis found out that BYU has actually won slightly more than 50% of the games that they have played in where he officiated.

That is a definitive rejection of Jay Drew’s assertion.

Now, if you want to argue that McCall has made bad calls, swallowed a whistle when he shouldn’t have or otherwise officiated poorly in ways that have hurt BYU, that is an entirely different debate.

And just because there were calls that went against BYU doesn’t mean that he is biased against BYU. You would have to compare the totality (or at least a meaningful sample) of the calls made for and against BYU, and compare that to the calls made for and against the opponent.

Fans tend to see what they want when their team is in play and forget the times the opponent was penalized unfairly by that same official.

He may very well be the second coming of Wilburn Boggs, but a couple of examples in isolation do not meet the hurdle of proving that.

It would be an interesting analysis to compare the number, type and situation of calls in BYU games to see if there is any statistical evidence of him being anti-BYU.
