These days I think orthodontists treatment plane very conservatively with tooth extractions. So if they are recommending it then there is probably a good reason. Did they go over the pros and cons? You could look at a few second opinions... there are as many ways to treat a case as there are orthodontists. They all have their way of doing things.

Was the orthodontist you went to middle age or younger or was he/she an old codger?
