The lake was once a lot colder and it supported trout. It was considered a sacred gathering place for multiple tribes, many of which spent their winters near Utah Lake. The introduction of pesticides, fertilizers, re-routed feeder streams, industrialization, etc. has caused this once great lake to become more shallow, algae infested, warmer, and more polluted.
