When you have shooters like TJ & Toolson alongside Yoeli, with Barcello, Harding, Nixon, Seljaas, etc. getting wide open looks due to the attention given to the Big 3, that is impossible to defend unless they simply have an off day. The way this team can dominate inside on both ends of the floor is unique to BYU Basketball in the last 3 decades. And being able to win games while shooting the ball poorly isn't something we've seen, at least since Dave Rose took over. But we've seen twice against Gonzaga that when the other team can score this team struggles to keep up. Now, maybe the offensive improvement over the last couple games is indicative of a team that has taken things to another level, but the sample size has been small.
This BYU team reminds me of the non-Kawhi SDSU teams, where they'd lack skill but win games ugly by dominating the glass, getting second chance points and playing tough defense. While those SDSU teams were tough to play, when you had high level skill they didn't have an answer. Though I will say this, in a tournament setting where teams could play 3 games in 3 days, that sort of team has a huge advantage. With the WCC byes, I'm not sure if it will be an advantage for BYU with Gonzaga only playing on back to back nights instead of 3 nights in a row.
