I read an article a while back (Car and Driver?) where they had never tested
an electric car that came close to its advertised range. The article also stated that many gas-powered vehicles had beaten their stated mpg and range during track testing but no electric vehicles. Most came up as much as 30% short. And during cold weather, they found you could lose another 30%.

I'm not going to get into the politics of why the gov't might let these car companies lie about the range of their electric vehicles. When I hear that one has a legit 400-500 mile range at freeway speeds, I will buy. It really is that simple. I don't need a commuter car anymore. I need a vehicle that fills the same all-purpose role as my existing gas guzzler.
