In a world of hunt or be hunted, you want to be the hunter. The correct word is prey, something that is hunted.

Prey is what a predator hunts, I’m not sure how anyone can be a pray.

It's "pray" not "prey". The idiom stems from "praying mantises", where males will sometimes be eaten by the female
