Another interesting factoid: The last pension payment

paid due to the service of a Civil War veteran was paid in 2020. Irene Triplett, the disabled daughter of Mose Triplett (he fought for both the Union and the Confederacy) received a pension of $73/month from his death in 1938 until May 2020.

The fact that their has been a line item somewhere under "Civil War Pension," up through 2020 is remarkable.

Irene Triplett (January 9, 1930 – May 31, 2020) was the last recipient of an American Civil War pension. Her father had fought for both the Confederacy and later the Union in the Civil War. The last living wife of a Civil War veteran was Helen Viola Jackson who died on December 16, 2020.
