Our conversation went something like:
Me: Why did I get pulled over?
Officer: You’re not following rules.
Me: What rule did I break?
Officer: You have to follow us to the police station. If you try running, you’ll be arrested.
*once at the police station*
Officer: You owe a fine of 5,000 pesos
Me: I’m not paying you $500...you haven’t even told me what I did.
Officer: *returns inside to talk to some other officers and then comes back* You owe us 2,000 pesos.
Me: I’m not paying you that. What did I do?
Officer: *returns to discuss again* Okay, we will let you go for 1,000 pesos.
Me: I’ll give you $50. Nothing more.
He agreed to that. I handed him $50 and I drove that car directly over to the hertz drop off place.
