They won't be able to do much, probably. If he's having withdrawals and needs
Medical treatment, that can be a good place.
If there's any chance he is so drepressed he could harm himself, it may be the best way to go.
They could prescribe librium at the ED if it's alcohol to help with the withdrawals of he decides to quit on his own.
But if it's other drugs or he's not in medical or psychiatric crisis, there's not much they can do
