Here is the formula for a successful TED talk:
-Tell an emotional story about an unknown individual.
-Reveal that the story is about you.
-Introduce your topic (ex: iPads create epidemic-level anxiety on society)
-Use bedrock, universally accepted pseudo-science to establish your point. Mention that our ancestors, the cavepeople faced a very similar problem. Acknowledge the brain's "fight or flight" response. Example of a similar problem: when ancient cavepeople used tablets (of rock, but they're basically the same as tablets today), sabertooth tigers attacked and ate them. Cavepeople needed to learn to fight or to flight. Cavepersons evolved and anxiety was bread into human brains.
-Prove your point (ex: therefore, we must fight or flight iPads before anxiety tears our society apart)
-Call to action: Read my book
-Ending: Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
Pro tips:
-Use active voice and strong words that evoke thought ("the universe BECKONS us to avoid iPads")
-Males: wear a nice blazer, sweater, or vest. But whatever you do, DON'T wear a tie! Steve Jobs never did and neither did Simon Sinek. And while we're on the subject, turtle necks are hallowed and were retired by Steve Jobs.
-Females: doesn't matter what you wear. Unless your name is Elizabeth Holmes, and then you can wear a black turtle neck.
-Add "Thought Leader" designation to your LinkedIn profile
