from Antony Beevor or Max Hastings.
A couple recent favorites have been:
Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer. This is the (disputedly) real life story of an Alsatian who fought in the Großdeutschland, a division notorious for having been in many of the major battles on the Eastern Front. Some of his accounts are absolutely incredible.
Enemy at the Gates by William Craig. Most of us are familiar with the movie but I enjoyed the book a lot more. Some of the most profound sources in the book are the communications from Paulus' staff in the "kessel" to Manstein's staff.
