If you have a table of all your prefixes, you can do a vlookup in a separate column for your "column to highlight"
And then you can create a custom formatting rule for your cells in the "column to highlight" which keys off the vlookup results in the separate column you created. If you don't want to create a separate column for the vlookup, then you're staring at a VBA solution to your problem.
