Good stats are still not too hard to manipulate; a lot depends on the
study design and the assumptions. Simple things can be easy to spot: i.e., small sample size, causation vs correlation errors. But the study design, assumptions, and the conclusions drawn are not too hard to manipulate in subtle ways, which means a lot of statistics are not super reliable, even those that pass the smell test of credibility.
