in ranching/farming. Used to sell the calves in the fall to a feed lot for finishing. I found it to difficult to sell them privately for slaughter when the were ready. For that reason I just stayed with selling calves. Black calves were worth a little more but I never liked angus. Seemed to me they looked for every hole in the fence so they could go to another pasture. I raised totally mixed cattle. Always wanted hybrid vigor from cross breeding. I also tried to decide what various cows needed to improve my herd and tried to accomplish that with bulls I purchased. I used black simminetals for size. I liked Durham for putting milk in my cows udders. I like angus for smaller weaning weight, therefore easier calving. I even used Herefords early on in my operation for gentleness of calves. We still own the property. I’ve sold off the cattle and farm equipment. I hope the Lord needs cattle ranchers in the next life. I’ll do Him a fine job.
