For Gonzaga it doesn't matter whether they play the #3 or #4 team in the semis because they are so much better than both of them. But imagine if Gonzaga had to play in a Monday night final without any games under their belt and BYU was able to play a warmup game two days prior with a night off in between. Even though Gonzaga is really good, BYU would likely come out much more comfortable in the tournament environment. And that could be the difference between a win and a loss for what would otherwise be a decisive Gonzaga win. This is what #2 seeds have to deal with every year in the semis under the current format of the WCC Tournament. #2 seeds aren't so far above the rest of the WCC that it doesn't really matter, as is the case for Gonzaga.
