Notice how the BYUtv guys generally don't use it
They'll have a slip up here and there, but generally they try to keep things professional, especially Greg, Spencer & Jarom who were trained as media and aren't former players. Guys like Nixon, Logan, Haws, etc. who actually played for BYU are entitled to a certain amount of leeway. But local radio guys who say they are legitimate professionals yet cross that boundary between media and fan by saying "we" or "us" sound very unprofessional. Locke went on KNBR (which has been the flagship for the Giants, 49ers & Warriors at different times) in the Bay Area during one of the playoff series between the Jazz & Warriors and was dropping "we" all over his interview. After the interview the hosts just railed on him for being unprofessional and thinking he is part of the team. The Giants have two former players that do their games and they never use "we" and none of the other local broadcasters in the market do it either. Do they have local bias? Absolutely. But crossing that line to include themselves as part of the team instead of media that covers the team is treated as forbidden territory.

Perhaps there is a difference in etiquette based on the size of the media market?
